Electroplex Amplifiers(tm) proudly introduces 3 new all-tube models, debuted at the 2017 Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA. The Tri-Plex, the Retro-Rocket and Bass, Baby! represent the first “from scratch” new designs since our founding in 1994! And we’ve set out to expand the boundaries of what to expect from tube amplifiers!
The Electroplex Tri-Plex comes in two flavors: “High Gain” and “High Headroom”.
* “High Gain” Tri-Plex
Pictured in an amp head configuration, the High Gain Tri-Plex features “JTM” style* power and output transformers and two different pairs of matched power tubes. The KT66s provide plenty of low-end punch and a British-flavored growl when pushed. The “KTs” can be operated at 35 watts, or 25 watts in the low-power mode. The other matched pair are EL84s, operating at 10 watts. The “84s” provide a sweet high-end chime and a gnarly mid-range grind when pushed.
The “Tri” in Tri-Plex is derived from the three power tube options built in to the Tri-Plex:
Option 1. KT66s only
Option 2. EL84s only
Option 3. KT66s and EL84s simultaneously!
A 3-way switch on the rear panel allows you to select any option “on the fly”.
Options 1 and 2 showcase what KT66s and EL84s are famous for, but option 3 brings in a whole new dynamic! The Tri-Plex blends the virtues of both tube types: the stout low-end response and growl of the KT66s with the mids-centered crunch and bell-like high-end of the EL84s. The result is a glorious harmonic mix that is well-balanced from highs to lows, and is unlike anything a single tube type can deliver!
* “High Headroom” Tri-Plex
The High Headroom Tri-Plex, shown here in a compact 1×12 combo configuration, marries the dual power tube concept to an airy, “transparent” high-headroom preamp to create a clean and articulate amplifier, rich with harmonic possibilities! This Tri-Plex uses a matched pair of 5881s, providing a warm low-end and a nice sparkle of its own when pushed. The 5881s operate at 35 watts in the high power mode, and 22 watts in the low power mode. The other matched pair are EL84s, operating at 10 watts. As with the High Gain Tri-Plex, the “84s” provide a sweet high-end chime and a gnarly mid-range grind when pushed.
The newly-designed tone circuit of this Tri-Plex produces a natural, “airy” and open sound, taking full advantage of the harmonic possibilities capable with the three power tube options. The three power tube options for the High Headroom Tri-Plex are:
Option 1. 5881s only
Option 2. EL84s only
Option 3. 5881s and EL84s simultaneously!
A 3-way switch on the rear panel allows you to select any option “on the fly”.
Option 3 takes two quite different tube types and creates a “best of both worlds” blend of tube responses and harmonics. Combined with its natural-sounding preamp/tone circuit, the High Headroom Tri-Plex is ideal for pedal boards, and for players who want to “go straight in” for clean, harmonically rich tones!
* Retro-Rocket
Pure Pedal Power! The Electroplex Retro-Rocket is designed to faithfully amplify the sounds you create with your effect pedals. Taking a “going back to the basics” approach, the Retro-Rocket is compact, yet has the power and projection to fill large rooms with sound!
Shown here in its 1×12 combo configuration, the Retro-Rocket features a “transparent” preamp design with high headroom able to accurately reproduce every nuance of your sound. And the natural-sounding tone circuit can “polish” your sound or step out of the way and let your pedals do the talking!
The Retro-Rocket is comes in 22-watt (using 6V6s), 35-watt (using 5881s) and 50-watt (using 6L6GCs) versions, so you can choose just the amount of power you need. Additionally, a 50-watt version using EL34s is available as a special order.
The Retro-Rocket is also a great stand-alone amp! Like all the Rockets before it–turn it up and it “comes to the party”!
* Bass, Baby!
“Bass, Baby!” is not only the name of our new, all-tube bass amp, it’s also a statement! Almost two years in development, Bass, Baby! is a fresh look at how tube amplifiers can be used to make bass instruments sound naturally great!
At the heart of the Bass, Baby! are stout NOS Schumacher power and output transformers. Custom designed as “oversized” transformers for the original Electroplex Rocket 90 in 1993, they are ideal for the design of Bass, Baby!. A quartet of 6L6GCs provide 105 watts of smooth, punchy power; plenty for small live venues and recording studios. The newly-developed “transparent” preamp/tone circuit creates a smooth, spacious sound that greets the ear with grace!
Special order options include:
> A matched pair of KT88s for 85 watts of power
> An “SVT” type** tone circuit
